Sometimes we don’t know what we’ve got until it’s gone. The song was written by  the Philadelphia songwriting and record production team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. They had a big influence on that Philly sound. Lou Rawls released it on his 1976 album All Things in Time and as a single backed with “Let’s Fall in Love All Over Again.” It was a breakthrough hit for him. In 1976, it went to #1 on the U.S. Billboard R&B and Adult Contemporary charts. It was #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and in Canada. It was #10 in the U.K. and #22 in Australia. The single sold more than one million copies and earned in RIAA gold record. The record also featured MFSB, that is, “Mother Father Sister Brother” session musicians from Philadelphia’s Sigma Sound Studios. They were assembled by Gamble and Huff.

“You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” has been featured in numerous films, including  The Hot ChickGuess Who, DisturbiaIce Age: Dawn of the DinosaursHit and RunVeronica Mars. On TV, it has appeared in That ’70s Show, South Park, Two and a Half Men, Psych, The Proud Family, and Dancing with the Stars.

This hit came late in Rawls’ music career, but he was a blinding flash of action nonetheless. He had a substantial acting career, playing bit parts on various TV series throughout the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. This included Sesame StreetThe Big ValleyBaywatchThe Muppet Show, and Martin, as well as voice acting in cartoons including Hey Arnold! and Garfield. Oh, wait, don’t forget the commercial spokesman work for Colonial Penn Life Insurance and Anheuser-Busch. Oh, also don’t forget the charity work with the “Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon” to benefit the United Negro College Fund. Now on top of this, he had a music career in which he released 55 albums between 1962 and 2003. Did the man ever sleep?

Lou Rawls was a singer, actor, voice actor, and songwriter. He released more than 60 albums and sold more than 40 million records. He also won three Grammy awards, all for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

  1. Lou Rawls, is just to much. Wow, “Your Going To Miss” is just darn good. I really never understood all the phrases until I read the lyrics and captions on this recording. Thank you so much. I love it and miss Lou so much.
